The organs of the abdomen are very sensitive to internal and external influences. Everything that we eat passes through the digestive tract, so any food allergies, intolerances or sensitivities that we have can quickly lead to abdominal pain. Illness can also cause the organs of the digestive tract to cramp. It is important to remember, however, that the abdomen reacts to both physical and psychological stimuli. Nervousness and tension very often cause spasms in the muscles of the stomach, intestine or colon, resulting in abdominal pain. At times of stress and change, many people suffer from temporary stomach pain episodes.
However, if you experience abdominal pain and cramps that are ongoing or worsening, or if pain is accompanied by fever or weight loss, or if you notice blood on your stools, please discuss your symptoms with your doctor.
